ENG3401 Law through Lit, FA2018

An exploration of concepts of justice, higher law, customary law and written law expressed through works of fiction and non-fiction. The course seeks to enhance the student’s sensitivity to issues of ethics, gender bias and class consciousness ans they affect the administration of justice. Readings improve communication skills and strengthen legal skills of identifying, articulating and locating problems in the context of underlying legal issues. Written assignments emphasize expository writing skills.

The theory and application of procedure in civil litigation with emphasis on New York State courts. The role of the paralegal in drafting documents for litigation and techniques in discovery. The use of the computer in automated litigation support. File maintenance and how to prepare a case for trial.

Law and Paralegal Club

It is the mission of the Law and Paralegal Studies (LPS) Club at New York City College of Technology to promote the paralegal and legal profession by increasing awareness and understanding of the legal environment. The Club welcomes all Law and Paralegal Studies majors as well as those who are not currently enrolled in the major. The Club provides opportunities to interact with each other and legal professionals to enhance networking opportunities and knowledge of the legal field. The LPS Club sponsors/participates in a variety of events related to scholastic, personal, and professional development. Activities include graduate law school and job fairs, panel discussions and trips to appellate and supreme courts.
