COMD3500 FA2018 – Prof Alta Tseng
This course is an in-depth exploration of the creative advertising campaign and related media. Working individually and/or in teams, students will research, develop creative concepts and design packaged goods and service sector campaigns. Preparation of finished artwork using QuarkXpress and software such as Adobe Creative Suite.
COMD4900 DO30 [10185] SUMMER2018
Internship in Communication Design Assignment to field work/study situations of approximately eighteen plus hours per week at a graphic arts-related internship site approved by the department internship director. Sites may be in areas such as advertising, printing, corporate communications or publishing. Students keep a log/journal to be shared in group seminars/discussions. Supervision is by faculty and by the job supervisor. Students will be required to keep a learning journal of their internship in the form of a blog using Open Lab.
CDMG3532 PrintProductionforDesigners Fall 2017
Print Production for Designers focuses on current print production procedures that can ready designers for real world policies, procedures and accountability. Understanding printing processes is an essential part of designing that can assure a predictable outcome. Emphasis is on the importance of personal communication skills to better advance ideas. Topics include print media specifications, digital prepress, Pre-flight, page imposition, proofing, and preparation of color files. Strategic use of Internet search engines, websites, and leveraging tools of technology will be demonstrated to support student efforts.
COMD2330_Digital_Photography_spring16
This course will explore the foundational concepts of light and exposure in photography. Students will develop visual literacy as well as framing and compositional skills. Students will become acquainted with a wide range of contemporary photographers and gain an understanding of how photographic style transforms subject matter into meaning. Using professional lighting equipment and cameras, the student will gain hands-on experience capturing digital images in the studio as well as on location. Students will also learn professional methods and software to manage, process and print digital images.
This basic design and color theory course explores graphic communication through the understanding of the elements and principles of design, as well as the design process, including idea development through final execution. Students develop basic skills in two-dimensional design, color and content creation while employing the design process of research, sketching and experimentation. Communication designers use the concepts explored in this course in disciplines such as advertising, graphic design, web design, illustration, broadcast design, photography, and game design.
