ENG2700 Intro to Professional and Technical Writing, Fall 2023
Writing Intensive 4 cl hrs An introductory course in effective professional and technical writing techniques and concepts. Students use digital media to communicate professional and technical information to a variety of audiences via written and oral presentations. Students also analyze a wide range of documents, study appropriate models, and practice collaborative research, writing, and presentation. Prerequisite: ENG 1121 Potential substitute for ENG 2575 for CST majors
In this course we will explore issues in research and documentation for text (in print and online), images, sound, and multimedia. You will investigate where information comes from and how it is organized in both traditional and emerging media. We will examine the ethics of information use and determine how to critically evaluate sources. Throughout the course, you will create and present research and documentation projects using traditional and emerging media and technologies. This is a writing-intensive course. You should expect to spend 4-6 hours outside of class time preparing for class each week.
ENG2420 E573 Science Fiction, Spring 2020
We will explore the emergence of Science Fiction (SF) and examine its preeminence as interdisciplinary literary and artistic forms of pressing cultural importance. To accomplish this, we will read and watch significant examples of SF from its long history beginning with Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and concluding with cyberpunk. Students will have opportunities to demonstrate their learning through note taking, weekly writing assignments, a research essay, and an essay-format final exam. Please note: this is a writing intensive course with a demanding reading schedule. The catalog course description, objectives, and prerequisites are attached.
How would you describe New York? How does your own experience of New York City life compare to what is depicted in the media? Is New York really a place of opportunity? What does New York owe its citizens and non-citizens? What evidence can you present to support your claims? In this course, you will analyze textual, visual, musical, and digital representations of New York City culture and human experience. As a class, we will discuss and practice the interpretation of texts and other media, the formation of arguments, the utilization of academic research, and the proper citation and incorporation of evidence.
