My Courses
This course is an experience in language use and social aspects of language. Students will engage the topics of linguistic bias, bilingualism, language policy and change and gendered language. They will view video recordings of various topics and read the super informative chapters from our E-book. They will be able to discuss issues of language and its power to do good things as well as to create some not-so-good political and other issues via Discussion Board.
This is a course in effective essay writing and basic research techniques, including the use of the library. College-level readings are assigned for classroom discussion and essay writing. In addition, we will utilize a new digital platform called OpenLab, which will help us to engage with each other’s writing and with the world outside of the classroom.
In this course, you will continue building on the competencies achieved in ESOL011 by further developing your writing, reading and language skills, including expanding college-level vocabulary, and developing more complex sentence structure. You will work on writing multiple drafts of essays responding to texts, proofreading and editing, and preparing you to re-take the CATW exam.
