The color I chose for this assignment is Olive. I picked Olive because since it’s fall olive is one of the many colors that I think is used a lot during this season. It’s a beautiful color that does not pop out like green. I don’t know much about the color Olive so I decided to learn & and explore more about this color.

Phase 1: Research

The name olive got its name from green olives the fruit that were found in olive trees. Olive trees were traditionally cultivated in Mediterranean countries. It was said that the wild olive tree first originated in Asia Minor and grows in thick forests. It appeared to have spread from Syria to Greece and then spread to Europe.

The color olive can be traced back to first being used during the mid-12th century. During that time a variation of the olive green color had been used in the armed forces in many countries around the world. The color that was being used during those times was a shade of olive called olive drab which looks like a darker version of olive. Olive drab was the chosen color for American soldiers during WWII and the Vietnam War.

Pronunciation:

Shades of Olive

The color olive is known for being a conservative color as the color looks dull. Some may even say it’s a boring color as it looks dead which is understandable as it’s not a loud vibrant color. That is why it’s a color that is frequently used in both fall and winter seasons. The color meaning behind olive refers to earth, harmony, and empathy as this color is widely spread in nature. It is also associated with compassion and peace. Since it’s a calming color it is said that it can help to reduce stress and anxiety. It’s a big reason why it’s a popular choice for bedroom decor since it can create a peaceful and relaxing environment.

Phase 2: sketches

  1. For sketch 1 I decided to put both olives on the side with the word olive in brown to somewhat look like a tree, as the i in the word is a leaf.
  2. For sketch 2 I went with a full olive that has the word olive in it, since majority of what I researched was based on the fruit olive.
  3. For sketch 3 I really wanted a calm olive sketch. Based on my research olive symbolized peace, nature, calmness, and humanity. So with this sketch I wanted nature to be they key here. We have tree braches with leaves and olives. The word ελιά means olive in greek? I chose greek because greece was one of the key places that had olive trees.

Phase 3: Existing Text
