MECH 3530 Advanced Engineering Materials
Course Description: Both traditional and recently developed materials and processes, including material properties and how they change, extraction of metals, selection, application and processing of materials. Composite materials and their processing, plastics and protection of materials against corrosion. Prerequisites: MECH2322 3 Course Credits, 2-Classroom Hours, and 2 Lab Hours

INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES
ASSESSMENT
Evaluation Methods and Criteria: Students will exhibit skills in class, labs, and all homework assignments, laboratory exercises, quizzes, exams, and design project. For the successful completion of this course, the students should:
1- Understand the properties of metals and how they change by different processes such as heat treatment
Evaluation: Students will be able to describe the behavior of metals in terms of their mechanical and physical properties as well as the testing methods about extraction of metallic and nonmetallic materials.
2- Learn how to select materials for different applications.
Evaluation:
Students will be able to identify many metals and alloys by their numerical classification systems, and state some of the methods and factors that involved in selecting materials for manufacturing purposes.
3- Know about different processing of metals, plastics and composites
Evaluation: Students will learn how to identify common methods of processing plastics and composites and describe in general terms.
4- Ability to identify different methods for protection of materials against corrosion. Evaluation: Students will be able to discuss the causes of corrosion and explain how corrosion may be slowed or prevented.
GRADING PROCEDURES: 15% Laboratory projects. 35% Homework assignments, 25% Midterm exam. 25 % Final exam
