NYCCT Head Start Fluoride Varnish Program 2016
For our community service, as a class, we ventured to the National Association-Family center to educate and demonstrate the importance of proper oral hygiene to children 3-5 years of age. At the center we utilized the “tell-show-do method” to emphasize the importance of brushing and proper nutrition. I was amazed that many of the children were aware of the importance of proper oral hygiene and dietary habits. Following the demonstration and re-demonstration, we performed oral screening, documented our findings and carefully applied 5% fluoride varnish to each child primary dentition. Take-home goodie bags were also provided for the children to implement what was learned.

Service Learning Project 2016
For our Service Learning project, my group and I visited P.S. 166 Henry Gradstein, where we educated and demonstrated the importance of proper oral hygiene and nutrition to 7-9 year-old. At the school we utilized the “tell-show-do method” to emphasize the importance of brushing/flossing and proper nutrition. I was amazed that many of the children were aware of the importance of proper oral hygiene and dietary habits. Following the demonstration and re-demonstration of the different techniques, we quizzed the students knowledge on the topics covered, then issued them take-home goodie bags and certificates. Unfortunately, they are no photos of the children during the activity because we did not receive consent to take photos. However, we have several group photos at the site.
Welcome to P.S. 166 Henry Gradstein
