Internship Overview

My primary responsibilities at Calling All Graphics, Inc., involve assisting with graphic design projects, such as designing menus, menu boards, direct mailers, flyers, posters, signs, logos, brochures, and t-shirt designs for various clients, most of whom are in the restaurant industry. I often work on menu layouts and window signage, taking direction from my supervisor, Marla Gotay, the president of the company. Marla has over 25 years of experience in the Graphic Design and printing industry, and she oversees the projects I’m involved in, providing feedback and guidance on my designs.

I came to select this internship through a recommendation from a friend who had previously interned at the company. She had a positive experience and thought it would be a great opportunity for me to grow my skills and gain experience. The process of receiving the offer was relatively straightforward. After I reached out to the company with my portfolio, I was invited to an interview. I only interviewed with Marla Gotay, and it was through Zoom.

During the interview, Marla asked me about my design experience, particularly with software like Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and After Effects which I use frequently. She also asked about my availability and the types of projects I was interested in working on. The conversation was relaxed, and I felt that she was more interested in seeing if I was a good fit for the company culture and the type of clients they serve.

After the interview, I was offered the position immediately. I informed Marla that I would be starting during the Fall 2024 semester, and she was very accommodating, allowing me plenty of time to organize my schedule and prepare for the internship. The interview itself was more conversational than formal, with Marla focusing on my interests, design strengths, and how I could best contribute to the team. This relaxed approach made the whole process feel natural, as we discussed not only my past work but also how my skills could align with the company’s projects.
