Technical Writing Academic Projects

Professional Technical Writing

Being a student at New York City Tech, my writing has developed through a process of planning and creating technical documents, especially in the area of information design. In addition, my design skills also became more enhanced through learning the elements and principals of graphic design. The work shown in this section shows how my research and knowledge affects the qualitative outcome in designing information for a targeted audience in topics related to technology, education, and health. The projects listed below helped me become a better communicator in writing and designing throughout my professional career.

Below are brief descriptions of the title for each project. In order to view the documents, click on the thumbnails next to the title of the documents.Ā To learn more about how writing technical documents has influenced the work I do in my career, visit my Professional Career page.

For this project, I learned to use Adobe FrameMaker to develop and structure content into chapters, cross-reference hyperlinks, table of contents, and index to organize information within subject areas of the topic for Reflections of a Creative Mind. Windows Cortana:
A Roboticā€™s Human Interaction by Artificial Intelligence
Date Completed: December 2016

During my first semester at City Tech, one of my first English courses was Language and Technology. For my final project, I had to choose a technology used in the modern day whether it was a software or a social media app. Then I had to do library research to discover reasons why that technology relates to language and technology. I chose Windows Cortana because it is widely used as a digital assistant that technically understands human language through speech recognition and it is created with algorithms to communicate with humans as well. I also explain how Windows Cortana has evolved from other technologies and philosophies that historically connect with human language. The document was created in Microsoft Word.

Instructions for Merge VR Goggles

Date Completed: May 2017

Technical Writing also comes through testing objects and discover what the audience will experience. In the same course forĀ introduction to Professional and Technical Writing,Ā I created instructions for the Merge VR Goggles. It is an equipment designed for users to engage in virtual activities such as animations, videos, games, and learning activities. It was designed for young adults to use with their mobile devices. I designed the image of the Merge VR Goggles in Microsoft Word and wrote the instructions after experimenting the use of the equipment.

Introduction to Professional and Technical WritingĀ

During Spring 2017, I took Introduction to Professional and Technical Writing. This was the first step in not only knowing the basics of writing professionally, but what you use to deliver to the audience. Depending on the type of material or content you are writing, yourĀ must know your audience in terms of background,Ā understand the issue(s) before conducting research, andĀ use it to provideĀ solutions that meet the needs of the audience.

Below are study guides I created in Microsoft Word using the steps and principles I learned from my Technical Communication handbook.
