My name is Maria Cabrera and I am a senior at City Tech. My current major is Human Services in the Human Services Department. The population that I am interested in working with is the elderly population. I have been working with the elderly for 20 years and there is no doubt that this population is where my comfort zone is at. I’ve learned that this population is very vulnerable so I am very passionate in trying to help them. A large population of the elderly do not have the capacity to do things by themselves, they live in poverty, their housing condition is poor, they do not have the family support, and they have a lot of health issues. I would like to become a change factor in the lives of the elderly. In my free time I like to serve as a volunteer. I enjoy spending time doing community service projects for example, going to hospitals and keeping the ill company. I also like to cook on my free time. I really enjoy cooking for myself and for my family.
