The article “OPINION: Cancel Culture Needs to Be Canceled” by Lawrence, Kennedy is about how cancel culture violates the First Amendment. According to the writer, Cancel culture should be prohibited since it restricts freedom of expression. Lawrence mentioned that cancel culture deprives people of their voices and the ability to speak freely. The writers emphasize how cancel culture doesn’t only take away influencer voices it takes away the public ability to speak freely as well. The writer uses the example of public figures getting canceled for stating their opinion. This approach creates a barrio against people having the ability to speak freely due to cancel culture it restricts people from saying what they truly want to say without getting hateful words thrown at them via the internet or in person. The goal is to people know that cancel culture isn’t ineffective and how it just cancels out our freedom of speech. The purpose is to inform. The author’s writing style, tone, and attitude are informative,and persuasive. The author uses logos to illustrate that teenage girls always have their phones glued to their hands so that they can more easily see others get cancelled or get cancelled themselves. The author gives many examples on how cancel culture affects the way we speak and blocks out the things people truly want to say without getting attacked or bullied.
