My analyzation of student examples in specifically based on “Proud African Muslim” by Amadou Diallo.
- The first thing that caught my attention was her mentor quote. Her quote was spoken by her grandma, whom she admires very much, in a different language. Writing this quote in her home language really helps get a feel of the culture where she is from. You can feel the comfort she was trying to portray she felt in the moment.
- On the second page, she uses a comparison between two worlds. The life that her parents wanted to give her, the life they thought would be best for her, which was filled with opportunities. And a life that was back in her home country. This comparison helped the reader have the ability to visualize the differences in the life she could have had and wanted compared to the life she is living.
- She provided a list of details throughout the story that portrayed her journey coming to this country, but most importantly I really appreciate her detail usage in describing her grandmother and the effect she had on her life. I definitely relate to her on that, my great grandma had a significant effect on the person that I am today and I am eternally grateful.
