As an oral healthcare professional, it is important to continue to educate ourselves and learn more about the new research findings in oral health. It is our due diligence as a dental hygienist to be knowledgeable in our field in order to be able to provide patients with evidence based treatments and data conducted from clinical trials, and analysis from credited medical data bases to improve good oral hygiene. Methods to acquiring new information is to follow up with updated peer reviewed journals and articles on oral health. Dental hygienist should also develop a habit in reading and learning not only about oral health, but also general health and medicine in order to provide a more holistic approach when treating patients and providing them with services that can help improve their overall health.
