Change is a part of life; and there is almost no change as influential on a person’s life as moving to a new country. I experienced this first hand when I moved from a small town in Haiti to the bustling metropolis of New York City, where I learned first hand the meaning of what is commonly known as “Culture Shock”. Culture Shock is defined by The American Heritage Dictionary as “a sense of confusion and uncertainty sometimes with feelings of anxiety that may affect people exposed to an alien culture or environment without adequate preparation”. Although I have adjusted quite well in time to living in New York, I experienced all of the confusion and uncertainty described in this definition when I first arrived.
