In ” Superman and Me,” Author Sherman Alexie was a young poor Indian boy trying to overcome obstacles. Not knowing how to read he taught himself by looking at the pictures of the comic to see the images and noticed their interactions. He uses the superman comic to describe himself as a strong individual and help others so that they don’t have to feel the same way he did.

In “The Movie That Changed My life” Author Terry McMillan was a poor child living in Michigan Port Huron in an old  home. Terry didn’t understand why the adults were so unsatisfied with their lives and was tired of it, and also was tired of her mother being so verbally abusive, and not being able to say something or stand up for herself. Terry learned that the road is still yellow and there are obstacles to overcome meaning  no matter how bad the situation may seem to be the road is always yellow.

The similarity  the two authors Sherman Alexie and Terry McMillan used were the superman comic and the movie the Wizard of Oz. They both demonstrate how they are the characters In their stories. They show how the characters overcome their problems and give them another way to escape and break society. On the other hand Sherman Alexie uses his comic to help his people overcome a stereotype. With Terry its a different story it shows how a person can just get through their own problems.
