*Community Work*

As hygienist, we are the liaison between the dentist, viable research and the public. It is important to teach, service and educate the community so that we can prevent disease and progression of disease both for oral health and overall systemic health

A visit to ESL 2nd grade students at Public School 166 Henry Gradstein in Queens where proper oral hygiene was taught through “tell-show-do” method. Each child physically showed the proper hygiene of brushing and flossing. Children were also taught about proper nutritional choices such as avoiding constant snacking and sugary foods to prevent caries

Next another volunteer opportunity came about where I was able to educate and apply fluoride varnish at a head-start program in Brooklyn New York. This allowed me to offer services to children who are disadvantaged due to lack of education or finances
