As you begin to work on your building you will need to study the relationship between the facade, the slab and the column grid. To answer this question you must begin to study how the facade of the building is made. You can do this by researching similar details, researching your building, looking at manufacturers websites for reference materials and by reading from either the Ching book or the Allen/Iano book.
Each you must be able to answer the following questions in order to draw your slab correctly and locate you column grid correctly.
- Where is the face of the facade?
- Where is the edge of the slab? (how far back from the face of the facade is the slab?)
- Where is the first line of columns and the first column grid located? (how far back from the face of the facade is the center of the first column?)
You should answer these questions by drawing your solution in your Revit model. Create a callout view of the corner of the building at 1 1/2″ = 1′-0″ and add dimensions.
