Wine and Spirit Magazine, Tasting Screening Panel Member, Continual

As a member of the Wine and Spirits Magazine screening panel, I contribute to a double-blind process of evaluating wines with the purpose of providing an expert’s opinion on tipicity and marketability, contributing valuable insight for the critics to avoid prejudice. Professional wine tasting requires the synthesis of the tactile experiences of taste, smell, and touch (sweetness, tannin, acidity, alcohol, and body) and the knowledge of wine grapes, wine production, and regional specificity. Wine and Spirits Magazine is a trade and wine centric consumer publication producing monthly magazines on wine education, regional factors in the wine industry and wine recommendations.

Wine Competition Judge

Volcanic Wines International, New York City, May 8, 2024

Invited to be a judge at the first Volcanic Wines Competition was a highlight of my creative contribution for the year. Among Master Sommeliers, Masters of Wine and wine educators, this invitation was earned through the continual contributions made on tasting panels and as a wine educator. The following statement is from press release for the competition, you can learn more about the competition and the judges here, my invitation is here, and the information about the conference is here.

“Wines submitted for the awards will be judged blind by a panel of volcanic wine experts assembled by Josh Greene and John Szabo, MS, co-founder of Volcanic Wines International. The blind judging process will ensure impartiality with judges provided only the vintage, variety(ies), and region for each wine.  Wines will be assessed independently based on regional expression and objective quality factors. Panel chairs will collaborate to determine awards for Bronze, Silver, and Gold medals, as well as Best In Show categories, utilizing a 100-point scale.”
