Aaron Draplin’s strong suit is that he is very example focused, and is very good at explaining what his examples are demonstrating. Once his gets his point across, he moves onto the next one, and will always relate the next point to the once prior to this.
Something I learned about design is that sometimes the most effective designs are built from the simplest of objects. Also, that sketching out and brainstorming ideas are a good method of getting out the things that might and might not work in practice.
I didn’t have any new words that I learned from this film, as everything was set in a way that someone that had no experience in design can digest and understand.
I felt that this talk was very engaging because of the amount of relevant material and pacing in the video. Each example had a point or helped demonstrate one. This gave me the lesson that sometimes you have to just try everything before you get anything, and that you’ll always do better with a reference as inspiration.
