Nursing Philosophy

I chose nursing as my profession because I believe it is my calling to help others by providing care to individuals regardless of their age, ethnicity, appearance and gender as they achieve, recover and maintain an optimal health and quality of life. Among healthcare professionals, nurses can be considered as the most trusted professionals based on integrity standards. They are often known as the strongest advocates for the patients, who are the most in need of high-quality care. Nurses are the frontline providers in delivering patient care and responding effectively to the fast-changing and dynamic healthcare system. It emphasizes that nurses need to be well-prepared and participate in life-long learning to broaden their knowledge, polish their clinical skills and improve critical thinking techniques. Being in the nursing field is all about the commitment of striving to learn to develop, improve and establish new sets of skills that will strengthen my nursing practice.

I truly believe that nurses have the responsibility to be the voice of their patients and even their fellow nurses. They seem to be born as innovators, risk-takers and explorers by taking in ideas and information, and putting them into actions to improve quality care as well as to lead the transformation of healthcare system.

Lastly, as a nurse, I believe that being culturally competent, by increasing awareness of the patient’s cultural beliefs, practices and tradition, is essential in nursing because it could positively impact the patient’s outcomes. As a nurse, it is also important to learn on how to set aside my own personal beliefs and cultural perspective when working with other members of the interdisciplinary team in order to achieve and focus on the team’s common goal(s), and, that is to provide high quality care and to advocate appropriately for our patients.
