Project Description: Monthly trainings for interns

Throughout the duration of my time spent at Brooklyn Community Services (BCS),  I’ve come to realize that there is no training for interns. We are not granted the opportunity to attend monthly staff meetings, to gain knowledge about changes that may affect the Home Health Department, or the agency as a whole. Quality training for interns and volunteers will help create a more productive agency, as we are just as important as the rest of the BCS staff. With all the time my supervisor spends out in the field and in board meetings, training for interns will help ensure that the department continues to run smoothly, even in the absence of supervision.

The way I had originally designed this program was for two Master Degree interns to run the program. When I spoke with such interns, they agreed that having a monthly meeting with interns was a good idea. They too felt that we as interns were kept “in the dark” about important issues and changes going on within the agency, These monthly meeting would have been a stepping stone for us interns, and for future interns.  As for where we would hold such meetings, I thought the conference room would be an adequate location, as I had never seen anyone use it during the four months I was there in Fall 2013.  Ms. Tannenbaum did advise me that she feels I had a good idea, and she will keep my project in mind for the future. Other interns that are now working at BCS expressed their concerns as well, with regard to not having weekly meetings to assure that things are running smoothly within the office, even during Ms. Tannenbaum’s absence.
