As a SADHA member I was participating in 3 seasonal toothbrush sales, which were designed as a departmental fund raisers and also an opportunities for patient recruitment. We advertised preventative services that we provide in the clinic as well as oral hygiene instructions. During these activities we encouraged people to take care of their dental needs and schedule appointments .
As a student of Dental Hygiene Program of the New York City College of Technology I was exposed to several opportunities of community outreach. We participated in oral health related projects and activities. We were able to perform oral hygiene screenings for children in the League School , East River Developmental Center and Head Start in Glenwood Center.
We appreciated the trust from the department not only to perform Fluoride Varnish Program on more than 60 children, but also develop and present our own educational program“Reinforcement of Oral Health Education and Positive Habits in Pre-School Children At East River Child Development Center”
We are extremely glad that volunteer opportunities were incorporated in the program, because we all know how challenging it is to find the site which will be open for program administration and will consent to make arrangements for the program to be held in the real world.
