I chose to go for a walk in the East Village located in Manhattan, New York. The first colors I noticed on my walk was the green trees, yellow traffic lights, red stop signs, red cars, and blue restaurant awnings. The colors that were slowly revealed to me were neutral colors. For example, beige buildings, cream colored buildings, black fences, black doors, and grey doors. The colors I observed that I didn’t expect to see were a purple food truck, a pale blue and baby pink restaurant interior, an iridescent pattern on a building wall near the entrance, and gold accents to a black restaurant awning. I noticed many color relationships on the buildings I walked past. There were red brick buildings with black fire escapes. There were many red and white themed restaurants. There were also restaurant themes that contained blue with red, red with green, and green with white. There are colors that appear to change over time. Bright red brick buildings tend to fade into a brownish red over time with erosion. Streets fade from black to a charcoal grey over time as well.
