Personal Nursing Philosophy

My nursing philosophy grows from Jean Watson’s belief that caring is essential to nursing and four values I hold in everyday life, four words: assistance, respect, listening, improvement.

I know we all need assistance. I depend on the help of others and know that the assistance I provide in promoting health is essential to my patients.

I was brought up to respect everyone. I know each patient must be respected. Only through respect can trust be built, essential for superior care.

I believe listening is crucial. By listening to patients, we discover weaknesses and can bolster them, and find strengths we can put to use toward healing and health.

I was taught to always strive to improve, learn new skills, sharpen old ones. In nursing, learning cannot end. Each day presents an opportunity to improve.

I hope these values allow me to become the best nurse I can be.
