Case Studies:
Assessment: 37-year-old African-American Male ASA 1. Dental: Intact comp restorations, generalized attrition, class I occlusion, no clinical evidence of caries. Periodontal: 4-6mm pockets on posteriors, severe BOP and gen. bulbous papillae related to generalized subgingival calculus with supra on mandibular anteriors.
Implementation: Gave patient flossing instruction to prevent recurrence of interproximal calculus, exposed FMS, completed four-quadrant scaling spread over two appointments.
Assesment: 43-year-old Caucasian male, ASA 1. Dental: Gen. attrition and erosion. Periodontal: 4-5mm pockets on posteriors, gen. mod. marginal inflammation and BOP. Radiographic: radiographs confirm generalized erosion and loss of coronal enamel structure on posteriors.
Implementation: Counseled patient on role of dietary acids in the etiology of acid erosion, planned nutritional interventions to prevent progression of erosion. Completed four-quadrant SRP to resolve gingival inflammation.
