Field Trip

IAB MIXX Conference

The field trip we took on October 1 was to Time Square to visit the IAB MIXX Conference. The purpose of this expo was to see the different booths and through their presentation, we were able to learn about many companies in graphic communication field. When we enter, we were able to take a free bag filled with some items that had to do something with the companies and the others stuff were common items that help people in their daily lives like gum and a notepad. The floor was very professional and every company had their own unique way of presenting their own booth but there were two companies that stood out to me.

The first company that stood out to me was the Ghostery Company. The thing that stood out was their logo design which was ghost and the typeface was cartoony. This company is like a web detective that is an invisible window that helps track tabs, web-bugs, pixels and beacons that are in the web pages to help recognize your online behavior. The Ghostery browser tool helps track trackers that can give that person information about the different ad networks, web publishers and companies interested in your ideas. With this program, Ghostery can help you decide which companies you allow to track your internet activities and also give you control by giving you the ability to block any web related companies.

The next company that caught my interest was the company called Quantcast because it looked real mysterious. Quantcast main presentation was about how they have well known companies that use their program in order to find the best audience for them. Quantcast is a web analytics company that measures and organized audience to help advertisers, publishers, and other companies find the best customers for their business. Like Ghostery, it looks for similar interest in both the company and the customers that help keep record of activity of the audience to have a better understanding of them. This is a good program especially for companies trying to look for new customers and this is the program that can find them. This can be very helpful for anyone trying to promote or sell a product.

There were other companies at the expo but they really didn’t interest me. Most of the booths offered free candy and business card given out but the best give out had to be the AOL Company. The AOL booth was a questionnaire or a survey where people answered that best described their preference. Most the class took the questionnaire and we all got different items that were related to our own interest. Their survey were given on big touch screen monitors and it shows that presentation does matter because I believe most people would have not taken if it was on paper. Over all, the expo was a great experience for people trying to see and learn how graphic art and presentation can affectively work to help bring in new customers. The Ghostery booth interested me because of their logo and Quancast of the lack of presentation which made me want to learn more. I went to the AOL booth because of their strong presentation.
