Hey everyone! I’m back with another update on my internship journey at Brooklyn College. Today, I want to give you a glimpse into my role within the company, introduce you to my supervisor, and share the journey that led me to this exciting opportunity.
First things first, let’s talk about my role within the Office of Educational Research and Assessment at Brooklyn College. As the Accessibility Specialist Intern, I have the privilege of working closely with Isana Leshchinskaya, the Assessment Manager, to ensure that educational materials and resources are accessible to all students, regardless of their abilities. Moreover, I am also tasked with drawing in new potential students to enroll in Brooklyn College compared to the other colleges within New York City.
Now, let me tell you how I stumbled upon this internship in the first place. It all started when I was browsing the COMD internship coordination site, looking for opportunities to gain hands-on experience in my field. That’s when I came across the listing for the Internship at Brooklyn College, and I knew it was the perfect fit for me.
I went through the application process, which included submitting my resume and cover letter, and soon enough, I was invited to a Zoom interview with Isana. The interview itself was pretty straightforward – Isana asked me about my career goals, my understanding of accessibility design, and she even took a look at my portfolio to see examples of my work in video and motion graphics.
After the interview, I had to make a tough decision between this internship and another opportunity with OpenLab. Ultimately, I chose Brooklyn College because I was drawn to the meaningful work being done in the Office of Educational Research and Assessment, and I felt like it aligned more closely with my career aspirations.
As for the interview process, it was relatively quick and painless. I only interviewed with Isana, and within a week, I received the job offer.
So here I am, diving headfirst into the world of accessibility design, armed with passion, determination, and a newfound sense of purpose. I’m excited to roll up my sleeves and make a difference in the lives of students at Brooklyn College, one accessible resource at a time.
Stay tuned for more updates as my internship journey unfolds. Until next time!
