Understanding the interrelationship of fashion and culture and how this developed over time is essential. This course examined how historical periods affected the style and construction of clothing. Students were introduced to analytic techniques that evaluated how culture, economics, politics, and religion influenced and shaped the style of the time. Each student was assigned or selected a specific item of clothing and then traced the development of style, trend, and fashion. This course also introduced important terminology integral to the fashion industry and was required to discuss all facets of its history. The readings, videos, discussions, field trips, and guest speakers explore fashion industry issues.
