Individual Strenghts Statement

Time management skills: ever since I entered the nursing world, I realized how essential time managing skills are. I acquired time management skills thanks to the stressful environment of nursing school and clinical rotations. When I started my first nursing job at a nursing home, the skills obtained allowed me to perform my duties while prioritizing the needs of my residents. I often encounter situations where I feel like too much is thrown my way. During those times, I take a step back and make a mental checklist of the things I need to perform. This allows me to stay focused and prioritize my tasks.

Reliability and Flexibility: working in a setting where patients need around the clock care, I understand that my employer needs to be able to rely on me. Being reliable means always coming to work on time and ready to relieve the previous shift. During times when I am sick or have an emergency, I always make an effort to call at least 4 hours ahead of my scheduled shift, to give my supervisors time to find someone to replace me.

Empathy and Compassion: caring for patients who experience loss of independence, debilitating illnesses or dealing with a new diagnosis requires empathy and compassion. My role as a nurse is to help my patients heal, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Being empathetic and compassionate towards their sufferings, promotes acceptance, support and builds meaningful relationships.
