Introduction

Growing up my mother always made sure that I visited the dentist every 6 months. She is the reason why I have no caries at the age of 23 and all my teeth are intact. She is also the reason why my interest for dentistry came about. At the age of 15, I started volunteering at my local dental office. I started off by doing simple tasks like translating from Spanish to English, as well as reorganizing patient charts and answering phone calls. Eventually I got hired and learned how to assist in the dental rooms, take dental film radiographs and sterilize instruments. I was exposed to all aspects of dentistry at a young age and ever since then I have been amazed and in love with this field of work. I am still currently working in the same dental office as a dental assistant.

In the fall of 2018 I started college at NYC College of Technology and applied to the Dental Hygiene program in 2019. The Dental Hygiene program has been a wonderful learning and working experience. I grew as a person and professional over the last 2 years. This E-portfolio will showcase some of the experiences throughout these two years of the Dental Hygiene program.
