Case study

Case study (1):

31 y.o patient.Presented with heavy generalized sub and supragingival calculus deposits. Moderate generalized stain. Type II perio involvement: generalized PD 2-4mm, localized: 6-8mm, mobility grade 1 and furcation type 1 involvement . Generalized gingival inflammation, bulbous and edematous papillae. Spontaneous bleeding.

Treatment provided:
– Prophy-Jet cleaning
– Quadrant scaling

Arestin evaluation of 5-6 mm pockets 6 weeks after placement demonstrated that cumulatively: deep quadrant debridement, reduction of inflammation, and Arestin antibiotic therapy decreased pocket depth on 1-2mm. Patient adapted adequate oral home care and stabilized oral health.

Case study 2

Patient, 29 y.o. female, presented with severe sensitivity of hard tissues. According to the medical history patient was avoiding dental visits for several years due to negative past experience. Assessment findings: heavy generalize sub and supra calculus deposits; Perio type I; bulbous, edematous papillae and generalized marginal inflammation. Gen PD 2-3mm, localized 5mm.

I was able to complete deep scaling after local anesthesia application. Patient was sensitive to the touch, cold water and air.  ASA, MSA, PSA, AMSA GP and Incisive field blocks were administered by me thought out the course of treatment. Attending DDS assisted with IA block to achieve necessary numbness of the maxillary quadrants.  Patient responded well. Treatment plan was successfully completed in 3 visits.

I have been exposed to a variety of experience with different population and numerous medical  conditions. It was a rewarding experience. Patients were learning from me and I was learning with them. Each case had something in common and something different. All deserved thorough assessment, planning and implementation. I’m deeply grateful to my patients for their support and patience.
