In the fourth semester of the program, I had a chance to take part in fluoride varnish application program. This is one of the components of the Head Start program which focuses on the education of young children from families with a low income. I was able to interact with the children and apply my knowledge during the educational process. The assessment process involved the age of the kids, behavior and oral condition; planning included the needs of the targeted population; the implementation was in the process of education on a tooth brushing technique, proper application of 5 % sodium fluoride varnish; the evaluation contained in notes of current conditions. The kids were responsive to our educational process.
It was an absolutely positive experience. I was able to demonstrate the Tell-Show- Do technique during the procedure. It was a wonderful opportunity to acquire experience to work with this type of age of the kids.
After this experience I would definitely consider to give back to the community. Also, I would like to apply my knowledge and experience in other countries with a low level of oral care due to an economic instability of the country.
