My reflections on the walking tour

It was fun to explore the city more. I had been to the vessel before, so it was something I recognized at the beginning of the trip. The high-line was something I didn’t  know existed. What shocked me to learn was that the high line used to be an elevated rail road. I liked that there were descriptions next to the plants, explaining what they are and where they come from. I also liked that it was very encouraged for people to sit down and enjoy the scenery. There were many seats, and I was excited to find that you can push some of the seats along the rail! (There were wheels under some of the seats.) It was interesting to see the architecture surrounding the high line. There is a creative flair to these buildings that make them stand out with their unusual shapes. The art installations on the high-line were something to not be overlooked. If you look closely, you can see the amount of work and details they put into these works of art.  My personal favorite was the pigeon statue. I mean- it’s a gigantic bird, what is there not to like? Another one worth mentioning is the ballerina statue. I just liked the way it looked like. The Chelsea market is definitely a place I would like to go back to. It was nicely decorated and there were a few restaurants that interested me such as Maki a Mano and Takumi. The Starbucks reserve has a cozy atmosphere and the smell of coffee was very noticeable that I was tempted to buy some for myself. I was able to learn how coffee is roasted, and even had one of my biggest questions answered by one of the staff that was operating the machinery. It made me more interested in coffee and I did some research of my own after the trip. The Gansevoort Peninsula was my favorite part of the trip. I stood at the edge and just took in the scenery as I heard the waves crashing against the rocks. It was very relaxing that I had even started to feel sleepy. Little Island was also great. I took my time to explore the area and eventually settled down by the Amph until I got tired and went home.

My Reflections on The Walking Tour

Living in New York and not knowing it is something that describes me, but after taking the tour I motivate myself to get to know it in better way. See how an old factory despite the years has become a market generating money and attracting people. The places we visited were the first time for me, I enjoyed them and discovered new things and some stories about it even the old streets have the old train paths, The Highline is very nice and big even the Starbucks very fancy

My Reflections On The Walking Tour

10/30

Even Though i did arrive later than everyone, i did enjoy this walking tour a lot. Before heading to Hudson yards, i enjoyed seeing the area around me, i had seen a statue of Jesus Christ on my way there. I have seen photos and videos of the vessel before on social media, but it was amazing to see it in first person. I also took a lot of videos of it and the background because i was just amazed. Additionally, when i started making my way out, i got to see the new statue they added on the Highline which i found hilarious. There was also another class seeming to have a tour of the Highline when i was there. While doing my research i realized they actually named this pigeon statue the “dinosaur”, and i’m glad it gets to stay for at least 18 months because it is really nice to look at in person. I’ve been to Chelsea’s market before back in December of last year, i didn’t really see anything that catched my eye my second time there but i did enjoy seeing the different food spots. Besides the pigeon statue, i also enjoyed the tour of the Starbucks reserve. Since my siblings working at Starbucks there wasn’t that much out of the ordinary, but it was interesting to learn how their production process with the beans and how overall the machines work. I also found it nice that they actually have a variety of foods and snacks in the reserve than in actual Starbucks. The Merchandise they had in store was also nice. I hope i get to visit the other reserve in the city near the empire state building. Greenwich village was beautiful to look at too, seeing the small beach area for visitors was nice as well. I didn’t spend much time on Little Island, but it was also a nice park, maybe I’ll visit again with some friends.

Electronic Profile

Hello, my name is Jonathan Hernandez. I chose my major to be in Hospitality is because I always found it to be an interesting job in the world of kitchens and restaurants. I took a cooking class throughout my high school years, but I never really liked being a chef all too much. When I did my internship during the summer of 2022, I managed to work front of house. The experience was certainly new, but was thrilling. I came to City Tech to further develop my skills, and because my school was known by City Tech since many students have attended here. My goal is to my best to maybe become a general manager of a big restaurant one day.

24 hours in Columbus Square

Columbus Square consists of luxury rental buildings located in the upper west side of Manhattan. The development runs from 97th Street to 100st Street between Columbus Avenue and Amsterdam Avenue. It’s a historic area and there are Low-income Housing apartments around the area. Mainly blacks and Hispanics live in these buildings however there’s a slight percentage of whites that live in these buildings.  The rest of them are luxury apartments and condos it’s mostly quiet around that area.

You may be wondering how to get to Columbus Square. The trains that are known to that area are the 1,2,3. B and C trains. You can ride the B or C train to 103rd or 96 street for Columbus Ave. For the 2 and 3 train you can ride it to 96 street then catch the 1 train to 103rd for Broadway. Around 96th and Broadway by the 2 and 3 train there are lots of fast-food places such as McDonalds, Krispy Kreme, Dunkin Donuts. There is also Paris Baguette as well. If you walk up Broadway to 103rd street there are a lot of Asian Cuisine restaurants also as well as a Spanish/Peruvian restaurant.  Once you turn up the block from Broadway, you’ll find yourself on 100 street and Amsterdam. The area is known for its parks also as well as the large soccer field. This area is kid friendly and it’s available to anyone in the neighborhood. While walking down to Columbus Ave you mostly see the condos and the library on one side while the projects is on the other side. Also, as well as a police station and firehouse next to it. On Columbus Ave it’s slightly a shopping area that’s has a Burlington, TJ Maxx, and a five below. There is also a large whole food and a target on the block if you need to buy groceries. There is also Starbucks, chipotle, baya bar and a burger place for quick food options.

My favorite places to go in Columbus Square is the TJ Maxx and Burlington because it’s across the street from my apartment and it’s very easy and accessible to shop there without going downtown.  I also like going in the five below because sometimes I like to look around to see what’s new.  It may not sound very exciting to be in this neighborhood, but people are friendly over here and lots of people know each other in this area. Like when I mentioned before it’s a kid friendly neighborhood and a lot of people do their own thing around this area.
