This course explores major developments in American history from Reconstruction through modern times. Topics discussed include Reconstruction, industrialization, urbanization and immigration, American expansion abroad, two world wars and the rise of the U.S. as a global power, the New Deal and the increasing role of the federal government, the extension of political and civil rights, and the domestic and foreign implications of the Cold War from Korea to Vietnam.
