24. A jacket that originally retailed for $89 has been marked down as part of clearance to $37. By what percent has the price been lowered?
The jacket has been lowered by 58.42%. When rounded, it is lowered by 58%.
Original price=$89
Clearance price=$37
89-37=52
amount of decrease=52
amount of decrease/original amount:
52/89=0.58426966
0.58426966×100=58.426966–>58%
By 58% the price has been lowered.
To find how much the price of the jacket has been marked down:
Subtract 89 from 37 and that leaves you with a total of 52.
When you divide 52 by 89 you are left with 0.5842….
multiply that by 100
leaving you with
58.42 rounded to 58%.
The percentage by which the jacket has been lowered in 58%.
