Melody Vargas’s ePortfolio

My name is Melody Vargas I am eighteen years old and I attended the high school of Repertory Company of Theater Arts. While I was there I studied Dance, Theater, and Music for my four years. The four years that I spent there I maintained an outstanding grand point average in my opinion, I held a 3.0. I have always set high academic goals for myself and I don’t expect anything less than what I know I am capable of. I luckily was able to receive two diplomas in my name, one which is the New York State Regents Diploma and second, the New York State Performing Arts Diploma.
Growing up in a middle class family I had to start working at the age of sixteen years old. So far in my career experience I’ve worked at McDonalds fast food restaurant and currently at Payless Shoe Source. I’ve dealt with many people and different personalities, which has helped me to realize that I like to work with others and do my best to put smiles on people’s faces. Working around other people has helped me to stay humble and be kind to others. My Career goals is to one day become a Hotel Manager for the St. Regis Hotel, one of the luxury hotels around the world. Also, to be able to love what I do, I’ve always believed if you don’t love your job you will not put 110% and I’m sure one day that I will love my job and put the work in that is expected from me. I believe to have much personal strength. Those in which consist of strength in humanity, justice, and wisdom and knowledge. I believe to have a lot of social intelligence in which I am aware of others emotions. Cornelia Connelly once said, “Do humble deeds, and without knowing it you will become humble.” I grew up learning about Cornelia, and for her strength in always wanting to help others have helped me realize my mission to do the same. My strength in leadership, that Cornelia also taught was “Action, not words.” The way one self presents them self to others shows much more than a verbal approach. I’ve always had a passion for learning its one of the most beautiful things in life. Without knowledge one simply cannot succeed or go fourth in life, like Francis Bacon once said, “Knowledge is power.”
My love for others has helped me become a team player and also a leader. I’ve learned to take action when I’m working with others to get things done or to complete a group task. As I said earlier, I don’t expect anything less than what I know I am capable of, so that makes me self-motivated in everything that I set mind to do. I am convinced that my personal interests in helping others, being a team player, a leader and being self-motivated, contributes to my professional attributes in the work field and in life. I’m ready to take a step in this beautiful life in which I will enhance my academics and to one day become the Manager at the St. Regis Hotel.
