Course Description

This course examines the relationship between language and society. We will engage the topics of world languages, linguistic bias, English varieties, dialects and regionalisms, standard English politics and gendered language. It will be a great journey of discovery for all as language is what we use and do all day long, but almost never think about its incredible power to elevate or hurt.
