September 7, 2008     Andrey Shamalov 98-21 65th Avenue #3a Rego Park, NY 11374     Dear Mrs. And Mr. Lanza:     My name is Andrey Shamalov and I am a Nursing student at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. I want to thank you for providing me with the scholarship opportunity.Ā  Currently I am in the second semester of the Nursing program at BMCC and unfortunately the workload in the program is large and the time that I put into it is preventing me from working and making money for my tuition and other expenses.Ā  The approval for this scholarship has helped me greatly because it dissolved the stress that comes with paying the tuition and also I will be able to focus more on my studies. Now I want to tell you a little about myself. My family and I immigrated to the United States nine years ago from Russia. I was fourteen years old back then and my parents had big plans for me. Maybe it is in the genes, or maybe it is the environment since my interest in medicine comes in part from my family background. My mom is a physical therapist, my older brother is a physician and my older sister just got her master’s degree in Nursing. Therefore, I have had significant exposure to their medicine fields. In addition, I am a very caring person who likes to help and advise people in any way that I can, so therefore I decided to pursue a career in Nursing.Ā  After graduating with my Associate’s degree in Nursing I am planning to continue my education by applying for my Bachelor’s degree at a four-year college, and my Master’s as well.Ā  I am looking forward to becoming a licensed nurse practitioner in the future and this scholarship will make my journey a lot more easier than before, so I want to thank you once again for making this possible for me.   Sincerely, Andrey Shamalov
