Syllabus

BUF 4700, Contemporary Issues in Fashion, with a focus on beauty culture, commerce, and innovation, is a senior-level seminar course. Students investigate a specialized topic or topics related to the fashion industry. Research, discussion, and weekly readings will culminate in a final paper and presentation. Students will use critical thinking about anthropological, socio-economic, and cultural factors shaping beauty attitudes throughout modern history and how it has influenced the development of beauty practices and products. The course emphasizes sustainability, globalization, and ethics. Students will develop a dialogue on practices in fashion with a sense of sustainability, ethics, and social responsible manufacturing practices.
