Journal#6 Self-evaluation

I am very harsh on myself when it comes to commenting on my work. This semester has been a real challenge for me and I didn’t believe I could make it. Meeting all the deadlines for each of my classes (5 classes in total) and giving my best in my internship job was a big challenge. Organization skills and less sleep helped me a lot to go through this semester. I wasn’t able to balance well school and social life, but I learn the power of small but important breaks especially when I was tired and my mind struggled to stay focused.

However, I was lucky enough to have very flexible hours spread during the week and the ability to communicate with my supervisor any time I wanted. I exchanged a good amount of short emails during the semester, but most of the time I was working on research and design of logos. The clients seemed both really happy about my designs and I felt most of the time I provided so many options for the logo that it made it difficult for Prof Goldfeld to pick one. I feel that my creativity improved a lot during this semester. I could come up with 10 different ideas for a logo in a very short time (like half an hour), which is actually part of the design process I like the most. Prof Goldfeld didn’t give me strict deadlines for any of the projects I worked on, but sometimes I was so eager to work on the assignment that I would work on it immediately or for long hours. I wasn’t that diligent and passionate about the projects all the time, especially when midterms and class presentations or deadlines approached, but I was able to prioritize the internship work most of the time.

To wrap up, I could have been a better intern especially when communicating my availability. Sometimes I would say I was going to work on something in the afternoon, but then tiredness and other classwork would sum up and I ended up working on the project in the middle of the night or the day after. However, I did my best to provide designs as a result of accurate research and a great number of design options. I hope Prof Goldfeld appreciated my work and that my “crazy” schedule didn’t interfere too much with her plans or schedule.
