Institutional Information
New York City College of Technology (City Tech) is the designated senior college of technology within the 25 campus City University of New York (CUNY). The college plays an important role in the education of future STEM and Health Sciences professionals. As per our mission statement, City Tech places an emphasis on applied skills and place-based learning built upon a vibrant general education foundation to equip students with both problem-solving skills and an understanding of the social contexts of technology that make its graduates competitive. The National Science Foundation ranks colleges awarding associate degrees in science and engineering by gender and race. City Tech ranks 8th for associate degrees to males, 7th for degrees to black students, and 9th to Asian students.
In the Fall semester 2020, 55% of all students were enrolled in baccalaureate programs, with a total student enrollment was 15,537. Sixty-three percent (63%) of students attended full-time and 37% attended part-time. Twenty-nine percent (29%) of students self-identified as Black (non-Hispanic), 34% as Hispanic, 20% as Asian, 10% as White, 2% as Other and 5% as Non-Resident. Sixty-one percent (61%) reported a household income of less than $30,000. Eighty percent (80%) of incoming first-year students and sixty-seven percent (67%) of returning students received need-based financial aid. The student body reported 151 different countries of origin. Fifty-five percent (55%) of students reported working 20 or more hours per week.
City Tech’s educational goals are to:
- Develop knowledge from a range of disciplinary perspectives and hone the ability to deepen and continue learning.
- Acquire and use the tools needed for communication, inquiry, analysis, and productive work.
- Work productively within and across disciplines.
- Understand and apply values, ethics, and diverse perspectives in personal, professional, civic, and cultural/global domains.
City Tech is a federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and Asian America/Native American Pacific Island Serving Institution (AANAPISI).
