Background Information
The fashion industry is a multibillion-dollar global entity. However, it is also known for being one of the most wasteful industries to the environment and people. The reason for these results is the growth of fast fashion. Fast fashion is inexpensive and trendy clothing that is produced at a rapid speed by mass markets that copy the latest trends straight from the runway. Ā Fast fashion has impacted the environment through the waste it produces such as extreme amounts of toxic chemicals and textile waste, which is part of the water population issue. ItĀ pollutes rivers and streams which dries up water sources. Another issue in the fashion industry is the use of sweatshops in underdeveloped countries to rapidly mass-produceĀ clothing items to sell as quickly as possible. Due to the countries being underdeveloped, fashion retailers can get away with poor wages to the workers as well as how they dispose of the waste produced by the factories in the area. By bypassing these requirements they can get clothing at a very cheap cost to the consumers and make huge profits in return. This type of practice is not only negatively impacting the environment but it also abuses the basic rights of some humans. There needs to be a better way of approaching this issue with the future in mind.
