Part 1 Projection
This week we are going to talk about projections and the application of projects in a variety of settings. Before attending this weeks lecture please watch the videos and be prepared to have a discussion with your class and your professor.
BOX
This might be the coolest thing I’ve ever seen anyone do with projection. A company called Bot & Dolly took projection mapping software and combined it with a pair of robotic arms. In doing so, they were able to create projection maps that tracked in three dimensions, creating a huge number of looks. I seriously recommend you watch the whole thing.
The next video is about Jeff Sugg projection designer.

Part 2 Real Time AV
The real time AV and control systems video is 16 minutes long. To break up the experience I included a virtual quiz inside the video. You will not be graded on the quiz, but you will need to register to take the quiz. I am collecting the data to see what problems you may be having learning the content. All the quiz questions may appear in a future quiz or test. Feel free to take notes as you watch the video especially the quiz content. You will be responsible for knowing all the vocabulary words in this module. To help your understanding I have included a series of videos that are examples of real time AV projects they include art exhibits and performance.
Examples of Real Time AV discussed in the lecture.
The first video is a professor at another college describing a course he teaches for artists who want to use real time AV in their work.
History and practice of generative arts
The second video is an artist who makes mechanical kinetic wall pieces.
LINES is an interactive sound art exhibition created by Swedish composer Anders Lind in 2016. Lines attached to the wall, on the floor and hanging from the ceiling in combination with sensors and electronics are forming three novel music instruments. No musical experiences are required
The third video is a presentation of an interactive art installation. It is called Glitch. I discuss this display in the lecture it is an example of a kinetic system, it is an interactive design that is hominal.
The next video is the rain room. What is so cool about the rain room is there are a series of sensors in the room that track the audience members. This allows the system to keep the audience dry while they walk around the space. The rain room is an excellent example of a system that uses a show control system to detect the location of all the guests in real time. It is a hominal experience of an interactive design.
The next presentation is a dance performance: Mapping Dance Performance: “Into the Light” | Chris Cross | TEDxLinz. It is an example of the power of computing. The system tracks the performer. I am not sure if the performer is triggering the cue sequences or if it is performer triggered. But it is a wonderful experience for the audience. It is a wonderful example of Interaction design using a kinetic, hominal system.
The last video is a presentation of a event using medialon as the control system. It is an example of a computational system, using dynamic interactive elements.
