Mei Ling Chen, ENG2575-D594 Summary

The chapter “A Medium Of The Most General Nature” by Nicholas Carr is talking about Turing’s finds have help to develop the computer which has become an necessary part of our daily lives and  be able to do  for many things. The Net has also become very important and has replace a lot of mass (old technology) media too. According to Turing, he thought that it would be much more efficient to create one machine which can do various tasks rather than multiple machines doing each task separately just like the computer we has in now-day.There is an argument that when Net has replace many mass media, but not replace all because in the article it states that there are some traditional forms of media not been replace like CD, DVD, radio, books and newspaper etc… that people still using it. This shows it is an argument because there still has some old technologies media around our daily life not just the new technologies media which upcoming or already has, that there still people using the old the ones. Also Net can replace many old media just like what he says “it’s bidirectional” which means to functioning in two directions.
