Summary:The Forbidden Planet
3/29/16
In class, we are watching a film called “The Forbidden Planet,” which was directed by Fred McLeod Wilcox. The film “The Forbidden Planet,” was released in 1956. So far in the story, we learn that a group of men are traveling through space searching planets and if anyone has inhabitant those planets yet. Throughout the story we learn that the men come across a planet named Altaira. The men that reach this planet slowly begins to learn different things on this planet. They find out the sky is green, and they also meet a robot named Robby, that can speak over a hundred different languages. Later in the story, the same men meet a scientist who goes by the name Moebius, and who is also played by an actor named Walter Pigeon. In the film Morbius explains to the visitors how he and and his daughter have been living on the planet alone for many years, and how the both of them have become adjusted to their lifestyle and the planet they live on. The name of Morbius’s daughter is Altaira who was also named after the planet Altair as well. In the film, we begin to see how attracted Altaira becomes towards the visitors, due to not having much contact with other people besides her father. We also learn that Altaira has a pet tiger, which later on tries to attack her and one of the men. We also learn earlier on in the story that Morbius created the Robot so that it can better help him with things. We learn that the robot cannot hurt other human beings, because it wasn’t designed to do that.

For class today we began watching âForbidden Planetâ as an example of early Science Fiction cinema. The film, which was released in 1956, was directed by Fred McLeod Wilcox and starred Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis and a young Leslie Nielsen. The film begins with the crew of a starship traveling to Altair IV in order to provide relief to the expedition that had arrived there several years earlier. Upon arriving, they found only two people remaining, Dr. Morbius and his daughter Altaria. Initially Morbius pleaded with the crew turn back, but upon receiving the commander into his home, Morbius willfully showed them several of his inventions including his robot assistant, Robby. Alteria, having never seen another human aside from her father, became infatuated with several of the crew members, including the commander, despite him initially turning her away from visiting his ship. After a night in which the ship was sabotaged by an unseen entity, Morbius fears that the crew might be in danger. He explains to the commander of a race of beings who inhabited the planet long before his own arrival, and it was by exploring their ruins that he developing the technological marvels that he had developed.
Prior to starting the film, we had a brief discussion on the relation of this move to Shakespeare’s âThe Tempest.â Several of the characters of the movie mirror those of the play. Mainly Morbius, who was supposed to have likened Propero and Alteria was to be similar to Miranda. The film was also supposed to play with Freud’s ideas of the Id, Ego and Superego, though that relation I don’t believe we have seen yet in the film, probably something that we will come across in the second half.
In class on Monday, we discussed the film âForbidden Planetâ, and watched the first half of the film. The movie first came out in 1956, and was directed by McLeod Wilcox. The production company was MGN, and the film was based on William Shakespeare’s play âTempestâ (1611). We also compared many of the characters in the film to the characters of the âTempestâ.
In the film, we see a spacecraft the resembles a modern day depiction of a UFO, and it is travelling through space on its way to a planet to give aid to the people on the planet. There is Commander J.J. Adams and his crew mates, and they make contact with the planet, but they come into contact with Morbius. Morbius says they shouldnât come down and he is alright, but the Commander comes anyways, which is when they come into contact with Robbie the Robot. Robbie can do pretty much anything and he is very strong, and as the Commander and two other crew members meet with Morbius, Morbius shows them that Robby is harmless; when Morbius gives Robby a sidearm that belongs to the Commander and tells Robbie to shoot the Commander, Robby begins to short circuit until the command from Morbius is cancelled. We see Morbiusâ daughter, Altaira, who has been taught to be emotionless. We see the the crew members begin to take advantage of this, as she does not know what kissing is, and Commander Adams learns that all of his crew mates have kissed Altaira. They do not like each other at first, but we begin to see that they start to gain feelings for each other. We also see early in the film that Altaira can talk to animals, even tigers, but later in the film, when sheâs with the Commander, her tiger attacks them, but the Commander is able to blast it with his sidearm, disintegrating it.

After Class Summary âForbidden Planetâ Part 1
The movie opens with a crew aboard a spaceship headed for Altair IV to help any remaining survivors. Upon reaching the planets orbit, they receive a transmission from the ground stating that everything is fine and that they are advised to turn back at once. Upon hearing this the Commander refuses to turn around as it was a long trip they made to help out. MĂśbius, on the other end of the transmission then says it is dangerous and they must turn around at once. The Commander ignores the warnings and demands landing coordinates and MĂśbius reluctantly gives them to him. They crew then land on Altair IV. While making preparations to use some of the ships materials to build a transmitter, they are greeted by Robby the Robot, sent to take three of them back to MĂśbius. They agree and go with Robby to MĂśbius where they meet MĂśbius and his daughter. MĂśbius explains what a marvel of engineering Robby is and the men are quite taken by desire upon meeting Altaira, MĂśbiusâ daughter. While MĂśbius agrees to have Robby help the crew, the Lieutenant is trying to court Altaira, citing that they’ve been in space a long time. Altaira does not know what he means as she is not of earth and the only other person she has ever known is her father. The Commander catches the Lieutenant with Altaira and to keep his crew in order, tells her she should cover up, she does not understand this Earthly social custom but does so just to show the Commander she could. Eventually MĂśbiusâs warning come to fruition as the spaceship is attacked. The Commander then goes to confront MĂśbius and he tells the Commander about the Krell, an alien race that lived on Altaira before suddenly disappearing and their building returning to the ground.
Before we started the movie we talked about how âForbidden Planetâ mirrors âThe Tempestâ by Shakespeare. However, instead of magical illusions, it is science being used.
Before we watch the first half of the film “Forbidden Planet”, we talk about the basic details about the films. Such as the year where the film is created, the director of the film and the producer. The film “Forbidden Planet” are created in the 1956 and publish by the MGM (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer) producer. The director of the film is Fred McLead Wilcox. The film has a element of Shakespeare’s work of “The Tempest”(1611).
The film starts out with a disk like spaceship traveling to the planet where Morbious was stationed at, AltairIV. The mission of the crew in the space ship was to relief Morbious from his mission since he has been station in AltairIV for almost two decades. As the ship approaches AltrairIV, they received a message from Moribious telling them that he is not needed for any relief and may leave. But the ship ignore Morbious and request to land on the planet. As they landed, a robot approach the captain and brought him to where Morbious is being station at. After everything is done at Morbious’ station, the captain need to take apart the ship so it can contact back to base for new orders but when night fall comes an invisible creature destroy one of the part communication that is needed for communication. They went back to Moribious and see if it was Moribious where destroy their equipment. Thus we have ended there.
In the beginning of class, we first learned about the basis of the film. The film has similar aspects to Shakespeareâs âThe Tempestâ. Although it isnât exactly the same as the short story, the personality of the characters are similar. The film also uses Freudâs idea on human psyche which is the Id, Ego, and Superego.
In the beginning of the film, we see a crew of a spaceship flying towards Altair IV and being warned to not land by Dr. Morbius. After they landed, they were greeted by Robby the robot. Robby brings them to Morbiusâ estate. Dr. Morbiusâ daughter drops by and meets with the commander, doctor and lieutenant. Morbius is told by the doctor that the crew has been cooped up for a year in the ship and that they were going to try to get involved with his daughter. They go back to the ship and Robby helps out with supplying the ship. Altaira learns about kissing, but she doesnât see what the fuss is about. At night when the crew were asleep, an invisible creature sabotaged the crewâs equipment. The crew suspects Morbius has something to do with it, so they go to his home to snoop around. The commander sees Altaira swimming and a tiger almost attacks her. He clears her of suspicion of being involved of the sabotage. The commander and doctor enters Morbiusâ room and starts to suspect Morbius even more when he isnât found in his room. We left off at Morbius about to show the commander and doctor the technology of the Krell.
The film Forbidden Planet directed by Fred McLeod Wilcox is a science fiction monster movie that starts off in the first part with a Space crewâs Mission on a âUnited Planets Space Craft ship named the C-57-Dâ sent from their home planet Earth to planet Altair thatâs some couple light years away from Earth to determine what happened to a group of scientists name the Krel and Doctor Edward Morbius of the Belerophen earth ship that disappeared on planet Altair-4. As the ship arrives the space crew detect some clear great power thatâs scanning their craft but before even landing on the planet the are warned by Doctor Edward who warns them if they set foot on the planet he cant be held responsible for what happens to them or what trouble they will be getting into as they land on Altair- 4. The crews lands on the planet and are greeted by a advance robot name Robbie that was programmed with a safe lock system that prevents harm to come to humans. Robot Robbie takes Commander Adams, Lt. Jerry Farman, and Lt. Doc Ostrow to meet Morbius. Though Morbius and his daughter Altaira donât want saving they are perfectly happy alone on the planet. When the three men ask what happened to the rest of the population of the planet it was told by Morbius that it was unnamed cause or force that killed everyone except his wife who died of natural causes; Morbius and his daughter Altaira are immune to it. As the crew leaves with little effort on persuading the Morbius to come with them they leave to fix the spacecraft because if not they will be stranded longer than they expect to be on the planet. The daughter Altaira seems strange has no emotion and its all because sheâs been closed off from any other human except her father; she doesnât know what a kiss is or what it means to show love and affection which is weird.
The night the space craft three of the space crew members guards the spacecraft and the lab, but for some strange reason the next morning the lab was destroyed and even though there was guards whoever or whatever trashed the lab went pass them unseen. Shortly after this Commander Adams and Lt. Doc Ostrow goes to confront Morbius if it was him but it wasnât; could it be the unnamed cause or force responsible for the deaths of the populations of the planet? Based on what was discussed in class the film Forbidden Planet shows many relatable ideas like Shakespeareâs play The Tempest which is about the main character Prospero who also lives alone with his daughter name Miranda from society but on an Island until a ship crew of sailors comes and mess up the flow or perfect life. Thereâs even a bit of the three laws of robotics which includes the law a robot canât harm an human if it does its programming prevents it being done.
In todayâs class before we watch the movie âForbidden Planetâ we talked about the basic information about this movie. This movie was released in 1956 by production company MCG. The producer of the film is Fred McLeod Wilcox. This movie was made by based on Shakespeareâs play called Tempest. This was originally written in 1611 and was performed for the first time in 1626. So this movie used science fiction instead of illusion magical in play.
The film stared with space ship Altair IV was sent 20 years earlier which is landing for investigate for survivor. Mr. Morbius was expedition scientist in this film who contacts the ship. I find something really interesting in this film is that he made a robot called Robby who actually does everything for him, like whatever Mr. Morbius tells him Robby does it form which was interesting to me. Anyway, after that when an Earth mission arrives on Altair IV, they find that Dr. Edward Morbius and his beautiful daughter Altaira are the only survivors from the original expedition that had arrived some 20 years before. Morbius isn’t exactly pleased to see them and would have preferred that they not even land their spaceship. He does his best to get them on their way but Commander Abrams and his men soon face an invisible force leading them to believe that Morbius and the girl are in danger. Morbius claims to know nothing of other life on the planet but does reveal there once existed a far superior race, now extinct, that left a huge subterranean industrial and scientific complex.
The film, The Forbidden Planet by Fred McLeod Wilcox, was shown during lecture. It was released in 1956 and starred Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis and Leslie Nielsen. The production company was MGN and it was based on Shakespeareâs The Tempest (1611). The film begins with a spacecraft that looks like a stereotypical UFO heading towards Altair IV. The crew is on a mission to help any survivors of a prior expedition. While descending, the captain communicates with a survivor named Mobius. Mobius tells the crew that the planet is too dangerous and he is the sole survivor of the expedition. Mobius then urges the crew to turn back, however the captain informs Mobius that he has his orders and will proceed to land. Upon landing the crew finds a planet with a green sky and no sign of civilization. In the distant a fast vehicle approaches the crew. This vehicle is piloted by a robot named Robbie. Robbie informs the captain that Mobius had sent him to escort the captain to Mobiusâ home. Upon entering Mobiusâ home, Mobius explains that he was the one that built Robbie and proceeded to demonstrate Robbieâs abilities. It was also revealed that Mobius has a daughter with another survivor who had later died. The daughter was introduced as Altaira, and her ability to tame animals was shown. The captain and two other crew members head back to the ship to oversee the construction of a transmitter to contact the headquarters. However during the night the transmitter was sabotaged by an invisible creature, resulting in the captain returning to Mobius to ask for his help. Mobius sends Robbie to help with the construction, while Altaira sneaks along. The captain discovers a hidden passageway in Mobiusâ study and the existence of the Krell was revealed.

After Class Summary
The Forbidden Planet
In class before we started watching the film, âThe Forbidden Planetâ, directed by Fred McLeod Wilcox in 1956, we compared it to one of Shakespeareâs work, âThe Tempestâ. We discussed a bit of âThe Tempestâ plot and talked about the characters. After that we talked about Sigmund Freudâs id, ego and superego.
To start the film off we see a flying space ship before we meet the members of the crew on board. Theyâre searching for survivors on a distant planet that were sent on an expedition. As they reach the planet Altair IV, they find the land to be void of any inhabitants till theyâre alerted to a tracking signal. Despite warnings from Dr. Morbius, they land at the given coordinates and meet Robby the Robot. Commander Adams, Lieutenant Farman and Lieutenant Ostrow follow Robby back to the base to meet Dr. Morbius.
Curious about Robbyâs functions, Morbius does a demonstration that shows Robby unable to harm humans or else heâll shut down. He then tells them what happened to those on the expedition and that he and his wife were the only survivors immune to the unknown attacker. Morbius warns them that theyâre crew is potentially in danger from the unknown attacker. Shortly afterwards we meet Morbiusâ daughter, Altaira. Later that night the space ship gets sabotaged. Commander Adams and Lieutenant Ostraw leave to meet Morbius. As they wait for Morbius, Commander Adam sets off to find Altaira. Due to her limited contact with humans, Altaira is greatly attracted to the crew but mostly towards Commander Adams.

After Class Summary
Today in class we started Forbidden Planet, a movie from 1956 that is a premier example of science fiction in the early stages of its development. Directed by Fred McLeod Wilcox and starring a phenomenal cast for its time, such as Leslie Nielsen and Anne Francis. The film is basically about the crew of a starship that travels from Earth to Altair IV to help a colony that had been destroyed with only two survivors to speak of. The evil appearing Dr. Mobius and his ridiculously hot daughter Altaria (whom every male member of the crew that meets her instantly lusts after her). Robby the Robot also, is introduced to the viewer and Robbyâs importance to the survival of the Doctor and his daughter. After Commander John Adams tells Mobius of their mission, Mobius insists that they are fine on the planet by themselves and that they should leave with as much haste as possible. After a sabotage on the ship and accusations fly, Mobius reveals to the crew that on the planet used to live an ancient race known as the Krell. They met utter obliteration after some time researching the vast dark areas of science unknown to man. Mobius was able to create Robby and the other devices to keep them alive by exploring the ruins and learning things from the ancient devices located there. Before we started the film we discussed some of the elements pertaining to the film such as its comparison to âThe Tempestâ by Shakespeare.
The film âForbidden Planetâ starts off at the end of the 22nd century on a ship. J.J. Adams and crew are heading to Altair-IV on a highly developed space ship, C-74-D. They are heading to this strange planet due to a distress single. This planet was inhabited at the 20 years prior but there were no survivors. The crew set the ship to hyper speed and entered the planets atmosphere. Adams sent out a radio signal to alert anyone on the planet. He receives a response from Dr. Morbius, stating not to land on the planet. Also, warned them if they landed on the planet, they would be in danger. Adams and crew proceed to land on an area designated by Morbius. Upon arrival, they are met by Robby the Robot. Robby takes Adams, Lt. Ostrow, and Lt. Farman to Morbiusâ âhomeâ. The home seems to be of a normal home on earth. Morbius greets the soldiers, gives them a tour of his home, and Morbiusâ daughter, Altaira, is introduced to the crew. She seems sheltered/ isolated on this planet. Her friends are animals on the planet and her first kiss was with Doc. We stopped the movie just as Morbius was going to show the crew his lab that had triangular doors.
âForbidden Planetâ was released in 1956, produced by MGM, and directed by Fred McLeod Wilcox. Three main characters were Morbius played by Walter Pidgeon, Altaria played by Anne Francis, and JJ Adams played by Leslie Nelson. It was based on Shakespeareâs Tempest. Morbius seemed overprotective of Altair-IV by his initial reaction to the crew landing on the planet and his quick dismissal of them once he showed them around. It will later be proven.
In class we watched Fred McLeod Wilcox, directorial film, âThe Forbidden Planetâ, released in 1956. From the story we learn that an expedition is sent from earth to the distant planet, âAltairâ in the constellation of Aqualie, in order to figure out what happened to a colony of settlers on its fourth planet, Altair-4. When they arrive they find that, Dr. Edward Morbius and his beautiful daughter Altaira are the only survivors from the original expedition that had arrived some 20 years before.
The crew begins to learn that the planet is a strange and unexplained place. Altaria, never having seen another human besides her father, is very curious and instinctually attracted toward the crew of men. Strangely, Dr. Morbius is very displeased and is set on their earliest departure from the planet. One night, an invisible force sabotages the crewâs ship, after hearing about the recent incident Dr. Morbius feels that the crew is in danger. The crew demanding answers about the unexplained incident, Morbius say that he know nothing about other life on the planet but does reveal there once existed a far superior race, now extinct, that left a huge subterranean industrial and scientific complex.
In Class, prior to the movie we talked about some influences to the film, one being Shakespearean play, âThe Tempestâ. In the film there are multiple characters that can be compared to some character in, âThe Tempestâ. Morbius and Altria In film being similar to Propero and Miranda in the play. An we touch based on Freudâs ideas of Id, Ego and Superego and how it was connected to the film.
For class today we bagan watching Forbidden planet, a 1956 film produced by MGM and directed by Fred McLeod Wilcox. It is based on William Shakespeares The Tempest. We discussed the three levels of the mind, the basic level of thought or “Id”, which is primitive thought, the superego where checks and balances occur, and finally the Ego which is the way we present ourselves for all to see. The film’s lead actors are Walter Pidgeon, Leslie Nielsen, and Anne Francis. The film begins with commander Adams and his crew requesting for a landing point on the planet Altair IV. They are there to discover what has become of the 20 scientists sent to the planet before them. A response comes from Dr Morbius, he tells them everything is alright and that they should turn around, urging them that he cannot guarantee their safety. They land anyway. Upon arriving they are greeted by Robbie the robot who brings the captain and his lieutenant to Morbius. There the Dr shows them how Robbie works and the incredible feats he can perform. They learn that Morbius is the only survivor of the 20 that were sent but be had a daughter, Altaira. She became immediately infatuated with the crew members as she had never seen other people other than her father. Morbius tells his story about how some unknown force was the cause of the other scientists deaths, and that be alone and his daughter were immune to it. The following night this force sabotages equipment aboard the ship and the commander confronts Morbius the next day. Morbius then tells him of the alien race that lived on the planet before, known as the krell.

After Class Summary: Forbidden Planet Part I (Film)
Forbidden Planet is a 1956 film directed by Fred McLeod Wilcox and starring Walter Pidgeon as Dr. Edward Morbius, Anne Francis as Altaira Morbius, Leslie Nielsen as Commander John J. Adams, Warren Stevens as Lt. âDocâ Ostrow, Jack Kelly as Lt. Jerry Farman, and features Robby the Robot. The movie is also loosely based off the play, âThe Tempestâ written by William Shakespeare. The film takes place on the planet Altair 4, which has been inhabited by a colony of humans 20 years prior to the story. A starship carrying a crew including Commander John J. Adams, Lt. Jerry Farman, and Lt. âDocâ Ostrow has been sent from Earth to check on the colony. As they approach the planet, the receive a message from one of the inhabitants telling them to avoid landing on the planet due to safety concerns, but they land anyway. Soon after landing, they are greeted by Robby the Robot, who takes Farman and Ostrow to Dr. Edward Morbius and his daughter, Altaira, who are the last inhabitants of the planet.
For the last class we began the science fiction film “The Forbidden Planet”, which was produced by MGM in 1956. Before we got into the film in class we discussed the three parts to the mind, the Id, which is the most basic primal body drive, the superego, which keeps our desires in check, and then there’s the ego, which is the tension between desires, it like a sense of self that forms these two tensions. We then went into discussing the characters of the film. Morbius, was played by Walter Pigdeon, he was a scientist living with his daughter on Altair IV, then there was Altaria, who was played by Anne Fransic, she was the daughter of Morbius. The name of the forbidden planet was “Altair IV”. The commander of the space soldiers was JJ Adams, who was played by Leslie Nielsen, and then there was Robby the Robot, who was created by Morbius.
The film starts off talking about humans discovering hyper speed in the year 2200 AD, then the scene set in a space station, with JJ Adams and his crew. The crew beam themselves to the Altair star, then set path for Altair IV. When the ship reached Altair IV, they searched for the last space crew that came to Altair IV 20 years ago, they soon received radio contact from Morbius. Hetold them that he was just fine, and warned them not to land on Altair IV, because he could not guarantee their safety. JJ Adams ignored the warning and asked for landing coordinates. They landed in a desert, where they were greeted by Robby the Robot, he took JJ Adam, his lieutenant, and the doctor to go see Morbius. When they get to Morbius’ he talks about how his entire crew was killed by some creature 19 years ago. He then talks about all his accomplishment he did in Altair IV. The class time was over so we stopped the movie.

Forbidden Planet
Under Commander Addams, a space crew travels to the distant planet Altair 4. They were on orders to bring any survivors back to earth, after an expedition to the planet went tragically wrong 20 years prior. Dr. Edward Morbius, a recognized scientist, contacts the ship urging them not to land. He claims they are in no need of assistance and by landing he cannot guarantee their safety. The Commander however insists they land.
On arrival, the crew meets Robby the Robot, an intellectual creation made by Dr. Morbius. Robby transports Addams and his two Lieutenants to the home of Dr. Morbius. There Dr. Morbius informs them that an unknown âplanetary forceâ killed everyone on the planet. He claims he and his daughter are the only two remaining due to some immunity they possess.
That night after some equipment upon the ship gets unexplainably sabotaged, Addams and his Lieutenants return to Morbius to seek answers. They find him studying the Krell, a highly advanced native race that died about 20,000 years prior.
Before watching The Forbidden Planet, we discuss the background for the film. The film was released in 1956 and was directed by Fred McLeod Wilcox. We discussed Shakespeareâs âThe Tempestâ influence on The Forbidden Planet. Many of the characters in âThe Tempestâ are seen in the main characters of The Forbidden Planet: Dr. Morbius, Robby the Robot and Altairia. We also discussed the Freudian themes used in the film: Id, Ego and Superego.
Forbidden Planet started when a starship crew was sent on a mission to the planet of Altair and were greeted by Robby, the robot who transports them to where Dr. Edward Morbius and his beautiful daughter Altaira lived. Dr. Morbius told them that they were the only survivors on this planet. Dr Morbius was not pleased to see the crew arrive. He tried his best to sent them back to where they came from. Commander Adams and his crew faced an invisible force that made them believe that Dr. Morbius and Altaira were in great danger. Dr. Morbius claimed he had no knowledge of any other survivors on that planet but he revealed that at some point a superior race existed but now was extinct.
The film “Forbidden Planet” is considered an example of an early science fiction film. This film was directed by Fred McLeod and release during 1956. The film was cut in two parts because our class isn’t that long. So the first part of this film started with an spaceship arriving to this unhabbitad planet named Altair IV, but there was someone stabilised there, he was a scientist that arrived to the planned years before on an expedition as well. His named was Dr.Morbius at first he didn’t want them to stay because he had done something that nobody knew about it. He try to showed the new crew that he had everything under control so they could leave and be safe, but what he didn’t count with was that his gear creation will show up and started murder people as he had done before with his crew, he was trying to prevent this episodes but he couldn’t at the end. As a plan he show the capitan and other two scientists what he had work with and how could his entelectual became bigger than what it was when he arrived to this unknown planet.
Before starting the movie we have a little lecture Un where profesor Allis explain that the movie was first performed in 1623. He also explain how does the humans mind works. We have 3 different parts which are I’d, the ego and the super ego.
in class we talked about the film revolving around the Ego, super ego, and the Id which were defined by Freud. We also said it was a callback to a Shakespearean play. In the film there’s a group of about 30 guys who all look the same on a ship that closely resembles a ufo going to check on a dispatched crew who hasn’t checked in with their bosses like they were supposed to. When they get to the planet the radio for a place to land and planet guy was like nah don’t come down here, we good so go back. They refuse to go back so he gives them coordinates. Mans introduces himself as Morbius and lies about being alone and shows them all this cool stuff he shouldn’t have since he’s alone. His daughter pops out and he tells them about the ways the old crew died but that he and his family was immune and his wife died of natural causes. The next day the crew finds that some of their equipment was messed with and suspect Morbius but he told them about the Krell.
For class today we watch part of âForbidden Planetâ. âForbidden Planetâ was released 1969 by MGM and one of the great early science fiction films. The film stars Leslie Nielsen as Captain John Adams, Walter Pidgeon as Dr. Morbius and Anne Francis as Dr. Morbuisâs daughter Altaira. The film starts off with the crew of the speed decelerating and discovering the planet Altair IV. there mission is to find any survivors of a previous expedition. The are contacted by Dr.Morbius who warns them of harm if they land on the planet. The crew lands despite the warning and are met by Robbie the robot.the robots escort the captain and 2 crew members to Dr. Morbius. Morbius explains that he created Robbie and that an unforeseen force killed every other crew member except him and his wife.Robbie cannot harm a human being and will shut down f a contradicting order is given. His wife died shortly after giving birth to their daughter Altaria. The male crew are drawn to her as she is the only female they have seen in sometime and she is completely naive towards them. But at some point the Krell disappeared. Dr. Morbius explains that before him here was the Krell. The Krell were advance beyond earthâs technology. And that a device that had nearly killed him had increased his intelligence. The crew makes preparation to communicate home at a later time and settle in for the night. The unforeseen monster goes aboard the ship and destroyed equipment.
