I just learned about the upcoming Science Fiction Festival this weekend in Corona, Queens. It has an outstanding lineup of scientists and science fiction writers. You may earn extra credit if you attend some part of the festival and write a memo of at least 250-words summarizing what you learned, who you spoke with (why not ask a question of a speaker during the Q&A session and write about that?), etc. Details are below:
On Saturday, May 18, from 1-8pm, we are organizing a day-long Science Fiction Festival in partnership with the Queens Public Library at the Corona Library Branch and Corona Plaza. We will explore science fiction through art-making, performances, technology, comics and zine workshops, VR demonstrations, and an opportunity to meet with noted science fiction authors and practicing scientists.
On Sunday, May 19, from 1-6:30pm, we will host the first of our monthly Alternatives & Futures Public Programs, with screenings of films by Coco Fusco and Alex Rivera (in attendance!), a panel discussion with artists and scholars Eva Díaz, Macarena Gómez-Barris, and Alexandro Segade, readings by science fiction authors N.K. Jemisin, Eugene Lim, and Sabrina Vourvoulias, and performances by Nahum and our QM Studio Program artist Jeannine Han with Dan Riley and Shuntaro Yoshida.
