As discussed in class today, your first weekly memorandum assignment is due at the beginning of class next week. It should be printed on a single sheet of paper and follow these parameters from the syllabus:
Weekly Memoranda, 25%
Write a one-page, 1” margins, double-spaced, 12-point, Times New Roman-formatted memo addressed to Prof. Ellis . . . . Your memo should leave no unused space at the bottom of the page. Make your words count. Avoid using unnecessary phrases or couching your responses. Focus on facts, details, and interesting explanations. Pay attention during class for any adjustments to parameters of these assignments. Submit your work as a single printed page handed in at the beginning of class.
For your first weekly memorandum, I would like you to write about yourself! Use the content area to introduce yourself to me. Please include your major and career goals. Interesting facts about yourself and your hobbies would also be good to include. Then, write about your interest in legal studies and/or the law. Finally, include titles of books, TV shows, movies, songs, video games, etc. that have a law focus and that you like (remember to italicize the titles of books, TV shows, movies, albums, and video games, but put song titles in quotation marks). All of your responses should be in complete sentences.
Your completed memorandum should look similar to this (but as I said in class, if you need more space, you may omit the blank line between the memo block at the top and the beginning of your memo’s content.
Remember, each week’s memo is one page and no more, and the page must be filled with at least 250 words of content as shown above.
Print out your memo and turn it in at the beginning of our next class. We will use your written responses as the basis for a beginning of class exercise.
If you complete the assignment late, you may email me a copy of your work as a Word docx email attachment. This will stop you from losing any points as detailed on the syllabus for late work. Then, you have to hand in your printed copy at the beginning of our next class to receive credit on the assignment.
These assignments are graded on best effort and following directions.
