As we discussed in class last week and had unanimous support from those present, we are changing some of the due dates and modality of the final exam to give everyone more time to demonstrate what they have learned and researched this semester.
First, the final exam is now a take-home final exam. I will give this out in class on Wednesday, May 11 and it will be due the following week on Wednesday, May 18. Since it is a take-home exam, I will have higher expectations about what you write and how much you write in response to the questions. But, the trade off is that you will have access to your notes and texts. All of your responses must be handwritten.
Second, the research paper’s due date has been moved from Wednesday, May 11 to Wednesday, May 18. It should be printed out, stapled, and handed in on the last day of class.
Third, the research presentation’s due date has been moved from Wednesday, May 11 to Wednesday, May 18. During the last class, each student will have between 5-10 minutes to give an oral presentation supported by a visual slideshow deck (using Microsoft Powerpoint, Google Slides, etc.). As discussed, all images that you use in the presentation’s visual component must be made by you–you may not use images scrounged online.
Fourth, we will continue with some background on Cory Doctorow’s Little Brother this week and then discuss the novel as a whole on Wednesday, May 11. You should come to class having completed the novel by then.
All of these changes have been made to the syllabus, so you can reference them there, too.
