Sample of a written assignment

In conclusion, writing this paper has given me the insight of what is required to provide care to the dying child, and their family. I have learned that every child’s perception of death is unique, and the nurse has to respect the child emotions and many ways of expressing their grief. The nurse has a hard task of attending to the child, family, and other members on the treatment team. Working with a dying child can be very distressful for the nurse. The nurse must come to understand their own beliefs, and develop ways to cope with the distressing situation.

In regards to my personal life, I have two children, and I cannot imagine putting myself in the place of the family of the dying child. Although I have learned to be helpful to others, I believe that if the experience were personal it would be very difficult for me to rely on my knowledge. I believe that support of the family is essential. The people caring for the patient need answers provided to them and their family member, their cultural and spiritual beliefs need to be address and respected. The patient and family need to have information on treatment options. They should have the opportunity to spend as much time together as needed. They also need the treatment team to be available to provide comfort.
