Philosophy Statement

I believe nursing is the ability to provide quality care based on respect and empathy. While working with clients, I will have empathy for their situation and provide emotional support. Creating a level of respect is important to my practice as a nurse because I want my clients to feel comfortable and safe around me. I will provide emotional support for clients and families when they need it most. I have been influenced by Jean Watson’s theory of human caring. I value the importance of my clients’ mental well-being, which greatly impacts their health.

I believe that being a nurse is not just an occupation. Being a nurse means devoting yourself to those you are taking care of and being present in the moment. I will be present in moments where clients’ need someone to talk to. I will develop a partnership with clients and families as their health care plan continues to move forward. I understand the importance of developing personal connections. Connecting with my clients will promote open dialogue and better understanding of what their needs are. I enjoy incorporating humor into personal connections with my clients, which has motivated them to be more positive.

I value the development of admirable relationships with my colleagues. Working as a team is important to me because facilitating quality care is a common goal that we all share. A team motivates each other and works towards achieving their goals. I believe a nurse is not a nurse unless they have a team that they can count on. A team supports you through good and bad. I believe teamwork is what makes us nurses.

I believe creating a comfortable environment is the key to a successful workplace. Clutter creates a cluttered mind, which impacts the type of care we provide to clients. I believe it is important to have a clean workplace and encourage colleagues to do the same. With these values, I will uphold my ability to provide quality care to my clients.
